Shari McFarlane, known to many students as Coach Schau, has been named Gulf High School’s Teacher of the Year. Ms. Davis and Ms. Fuss, who is in charge of the TOY program, surprised Coach McFarlane in her classroom this morning (10/23) with the news. (The video can be seen in the Gulf High Morning News here.)
Shari Schau started teaching in 1988, at Gulf Middle School. She taught at Seven Springs Middle School, where she was Athletic Director, from 1997 to 1998, and transferred to Gulf High in 1998.
She currently teaches Personal Fitness and Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, an HCA course. This will be her 14th year as soccer coach and she coached volleyball for 13 years.
She married Jim McFarlane in 2011. He is the bar manager at Salt Rock Grill in Indian Rocks Beach.
Coach McFarlane was born in Gary, Indiana. She attended Glenbard South High School in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. She has a B. S. degree in Physical Education from Southeast Missouri State, and a master’s degree in Athletic Administration from the U. S. Sports Academy in Mobile, Alabama.
