Gulf High School Assistant Principal Travis DeWalt will transfer to Fivay High School on June 1, becoming an assistant principal there.

In an email informing the faculty this morning, Mrs. Davis wrote, “This is a wonderful opportunity for Travis as he prepares for his future as a principal. We want to thank him for his dedication to our students, staff and community. I am so proud of all he has accomplished as a GHS as a student, teacher and administrator for the last 17 years and the positive impact he has made in our school and community. I personally would like to thank Travis for all of his guidance, support and hard work. It has been an honor to work with him during the past 5 years. He will be missed!!”

Mr. DeWalt has been an assistant principal at Gulf since July 2013. Earlier, he was a teacher and coach. He joined the Gulf High School faculty in the 2000-2001 school year. He has served as athletic director, wrestling coach, assistant football coach, and girls weightlifting coach.

Mr. DeWalt is a 1990 graduate of Gulf. As a student he was a state wrestling champion. He then went on to become a three-time NAIA All-American and team MVP at Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, Iowa.
