Todd Byers has been selected by the faculty as the Gulf High School Teacher of the Year. The announcement was made by Ms. Davis on the morning news today (10/28).

Mr. Byers is in his second year at Gulf. He is the Job Placement Transition Specialist and the department chair of the ESE department.

In his role as JPTC specialist, he works with students in the On the Job Training program which involves Publix Supermarket in New Port Richey. He hopes to broaden the program to include other employers. He also works with juniors and seniors on their plans for after high school.

Mr. Byers was born in Denver. He graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in Denver.  His original goal was to be a forest ranger, and he has a B. S. degree in Recreation and Tourism from Colorado State University. He has an M. A. degree in Special Education from the University of Colorado in Denver.

Before coming to Gulf, Mr. Byers was the work-education study coordinator for Thomas Jefferson High School in Denver. He also worked at an outdoor education center which all Denver 5th graders attend for two to three days. Mr. Byers attended the program himself when he was in the fifth grade.

His wife Charity is a counselor in a private practice. She is the reason they moved to Florida, as her job was transferred here.
