GHS wrestling coach Russ Schenk survived the largest weight class in the Master’s World Championship (24 wrestlers) this past weekend.

Russ beat his first wrestler from Great Britain and won his second-round match against a tough wrestler from Russia 11-7.

He dropped the semi-final to an opponent from Puerto Rico, forcing him into the wrestle backs bracket. He paid the price, earning a top 4 finish by defeating John Hanharan, a former NCAA National Champion from Penn State 8-6, but unfortunately was injured in the process.

In the process of winning his wrestle back match, he tore his Achilles tendon. As a result, Russ’ injury defaulted for third and fourth, earning a 4th place medal.
