Mr. Knobl announced the names of Gulf High School’s 2010 valedictorians and salutatorians today.

JACKSON LOOP is the valedictorian. He is the son of Gregory and Camilla Loop. Jackson was born in Oneida, N. Y., and lived in upstate New York until he was ten years old. He began attending Marlowe Elementary School in the fourth grade and also attended Gulf Middle before coming to Gulf High. He will attend the University of Florida and major in history. He hopes to become a history professor. He is vice president of the National English Honor Society, a member of the Mathematics Honor Society, and is in the Ping Pong Club. His GPA is 4.47.

CASEY PEREIRA is the salutatorian. She is the daughter of Donna Perry. She was born in Manhattan and grew up in Brooklyn. She moved to Florida at age 6. She attended Mittye P. Locke Elementary for first grade before skipping second grade. (Casey just turned 17 on February 1.) She will attend the University of Florida and major in biology and she hopes to become an orthodontist. She is co-captain of the swimming team, vice president of the Executive Board Student Council, and president of the Young Democrats. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, and the National Math Honor Society. Casey was voted “Most Likely to Succeed” for senior superlative. She is a waitress at Smith’s Cafe. Her GPA is 4.3068.

KELVIN TRAN is the IB valedictorian. He is the son of Ha Tran and Kim Tran. He was born in Saigon, Vietnam. He moved with his family to the U. S. in 1994 when he was two years old. He believes it is likely that he will attend the University of Florida. Kelvin is not sure of his major but says that it is likely that he will double degree in business administration and biomedical engineering. He hopes to become a biomedical engineer or to take on a profession in the business field. He is the founder and President of the Astronomy Club, and is a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Math Honor Society, and Interact. He plays the violin. His GPA, 4.66, ranks first among all seniors in Pasco County high schools.

CODY JOHNSON is the IB salutatorian. He is the son of Christina and Larry Johnson. His sister Nikki was the Gulf High School valedictorian in 2008. He was born in Dunedin and has lived in New Port Richey for his entire life. He attended Cotee River Elementary School and Gulf Middle School before coming to Gulf High. Cody will attend the University of Florida. He is undecided about his major and career goals. Cody is President of the Math Honor Society; Treasurer of the National English Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and Leo Club; and a member of the National Honor Society. He has caught all 493 Pokemon. His GPA is 4.6.
