The Buccaneers traveled to Land O’ Lakes on Friday night (3/7) to face the young, upstart Gators in a key 5A-8 matchup. The ladies came away with their 5th district win, 7-2. The win keeps the team tied for second in the 8 team district.

Madison Morlan, fighting off a lower leg injury, went the distance for the win. She carried a 1 hitter into the seventh before surrendering her second run on back to back doubles. The win moves her record to 6-1. Rachel Gardner provided the big offensive night going 3 for 5, a booming double off the fence, 2 runs scored. Madison also had a 3 for 5 night while driving in a pair of runs. Alicia Boloyan also doubled while collecting a couple of hits and Nikki Sedivy is beginning to heat up with a pair of singles.

On the defensive side, Tarra Rice handled 9 assists at the hot corner, each one seemed more difficult then the previous. Overall the team finished 2-1 (Tampa Catholic game was washed out and not rescheduled) for the week to move their record to 9-1. Though the week was not so prosperous for All Conf. OF Hanna McCarthy. Having gotten a real scare on Tuesday with a potentially serious neck injury. (proved negative and cleared) Hanna collected a base hit in Fridays game before having to come out of the game with a knee injury. Let’s hope for a quick turn around for Hanna and Madison since the Bucs face two conference opponents away this week. Ridgewood on Wednesday 3/12 and Pasco 3/13.

Also, on Saturday 3/08 at the corner of Rowan Rd and Trouble Creek in the 7-11 parking lot, the JV and varsity will be hosting a fundraiser car wash for 9:am till 2:30pm. Come out and support your Lady Bucs.

Coming up on Monday March 10th. The softball program will be holding a fundraiser at Zim Zari on SR 54 in the Mitchell Plaza. Check with any Buccaneer player for a flyer to present to your wait staff and the team will earn 10% of your check. A great way to support the team and have a great meal at the same time.
