It’s Gulf High language arts teacher Jan Ledman, at age 19 or 20. During one summer while in college she attended the Barbizon School of Modeling, and this photo was taken while she was there. Ms. Ledman explains that her mother wanted her to be a model. She really didn’t want to do it but she did enjoy living in New York for that summer.

Here are some fun facts we learned about Ms. Ledman. She was born Janis Zada Pierce in Birmingham, Alabama. She attended Pompano Beach Senior High School. Surprisingly, she did not want to become an English teacher, or even a teacher, as an undergraduate at USF. She majored in sociology. She received her master’s degree in teaching English from Pan American University at Brownsville. She taught English and drama at North Middle School in Edinburgh, Texas, and she taught reading at Edcouch-Elsa High School, which serves the towns of Edcouch and Elsa, Texas. She then taught at Ridgewood High School in Port Richey for 13 years before coming to Gulf.
