Congratulations to Gulf High School senior Shane Gillen, who is the winner of the Pasco County school district’s PRIDE award in the category of Performing Arts.
Each high school names a graduating senior as its PRIDE (Program to Recognize Initiative and Distinction in Education) winner in each of seven categories. The school district chose Shane as the winner for the county.
The selection of PRIDE Award winners is a competitive process, which begins with careful screening of PRIDE candidates who meet specific selection criteria, including achievement on standardized tests, completion of advanced coursework, high grade point average, and teacher recommendation. The finalists then submit a portfolio of work illustrative of their accomplishments in the specified content area. The Office for Teaching and Learning evaluates each entry carefully to identify district winners.
Shane and his family will receive special recognition at the school board meeting on May 20.
