Gulf High School’s outstanding musician Shane Gillen is attending a six-week summer music camp at the Brevard Music Center in Brevard, N. C. GHS Director of Bands Bill Rutherford and his family last week traveled to Moore, S. C., to visit relatives. On Saturday, July 20, they drove an hour and a half north to visit Shane. Mr. Rutherford writes, “We took him out to dinner and he updated me on how much he has learned as a musician at this camp. His days include private lessons, rehearsals, attending and playing in concerts, and practicing in the practice room located just behind him in this picture on Symphony Hill.” According to Mr. Rutherford, Shane is the first Gulf High School student to be accepted to this prestigious summer music program.
