Three Gulf students recited memorized poems after school today (2/3) to compete for the opportunity to represent Gulf High School in Tallahassee in the Poetry Out Loud poetry recitation contest. They are (left to right in the first photo) Joanne Donovan, Gabriela Deleon, and Gray Bigler. The other photos show the student judges and Mrs. Ledman.

The students were judged on accuracy, presence, articulation, dramatic appropriateness, evidence of understanding, and overall performance.

Mrs. Ledman reports that the three students have been memorizing poems from the poetryoutloud.org website, practicing performing them, critiquing each other, and using the scoring rubric.

Congratulations to Gabriela DeLeon!! She is this year’s winner. Gabriela will be traveling to Tallahassee in March to compete at the state level.

The state winner gets an all-expense-paid trip (for the student and a chaperone) to Washington, D.C., for the national competition.

We hope you are Florida’s poetry representative there, Gabriela. The best to you!!
