The CAS Student Spotlight recognizes an outstanding IB student in connection with his or her community service projects. For November-December we are recognizing Melissa Donovan.
Ms. Schrader, who coordinates the IB volunteering, reports that she is one of the students who is “admirably keeping up with proposals and reflections in the ManageBac System.” ManageBac is the system required for communication with the IB Program. If students don’t use it, IB doesn’t know that they are completing their projects!
Melissa has sent in some photos of her work and she writes the following:
“Working on CAS projects over the past two years has not only pushed me to become more involved in my school and in my community, but it’s been an overall enjoyable experience. CAS has provided a way for me to put my creative efforts into activities outside of my schoolwork, which I believe has shaped me into a more well-rounded individual. My favorite ongoing CAS project is Big Brothers Big Sisters, which I have been involved with for over a year now, because I am passionate about helping others and being there for them, which is why I’m also excited about the new mentoring project. I have also been involved with a number of CAS projects through my participation in clubs, such as to meet Spanish Honor Society requirements, help build a garden at our school with the Environmental Club, and participate in one of our school’s greatest fundraisers, the World Fair. Though at times projects did not turn out as planned, I will continue to put my best efforts forth so that I can gain the most out of my high school experience by means of my participation and initiation of CAS projects.”
