Ms. Dixon will probably have some interesting facts to share with students this year, as she is traveling throughout Asia currently.

During her visit in Bali, she had the opportunity to observe a school. She reports that every Monday morning at 7:30 students meet on the beach and clean up the mess left by the tourists over the weekend. Students receive community merit points, which she says are similar to community service hours. Below are some pictures of the Balinese school, and other pictures. Next week she will go to China to participate in a teaching project for a month.

Pictures 1-4 show community service on the shores of Kuta, Bali, Indonesia, as students are cleaning the beach. Picture 3 shows the Principal making morning announcements. In picture 4, students salute the Indonesian flag before doing community service.

In picture 5 Ms. Dixon is buying pulung-pulung ubi (coconot and cassava) from a woman in a remote village in Bali.

Picture 6 shows a Balinese tribal fire “kekak” dance.

Picture 7 is taken in Singapore.

In picture 8 the sign says “Welcome to Kuta Beach.”
