Coach Quarto, who has been Gulf’s girls basketball coach for 9 years, told his players at their banquet Sunday that he will not return as coach next year. Quarto had an impressive 208-54 record and five conference titles. Quarto told the Tampa Tribune, “I’ve been doing this for nine years, and its just time for me to move on. … I’m definitely going to miss the kids and the games. It’s been a great run. To be a good girls basketball coach these days, you have to be all in.” He said that he will continue his role as an assistant football coach, and he told the Tampa Bay Times that he could be an assistant girls basketball coach in the future. “I’ll be their biggest fans, their biggest supporters,” Quarto said. “I have a wife and a baby now. They’re my first priority. To be a head coach and what’s demanded now for this program, the kids deserve someone who’s going to be 100 percent in.”
