Ms. Ortiz has been at Gulf for almost eight years. Her last day is today (March 14). She will be working outside the education field.
Ms. Ortiz graduated from Gulf High school in 1995, so she says this marks the second time she will be leaving Gulf, but she hopes to substitute teach on occasion.
She is originally from Far Rockaway, N. Y., but moved here at age 4.
