Ms. Dixon at the Great Wall of China

During the last two summers, Ms. Dixon taught abroad to grow as a teacher. During the 2013 and 2014 summers she was one of 15 teachers from across the country selected to travel to China to work with nearly 500 Chinese teachers to help them improve their educational practices.

“I want to be a lifelong learner. Any opportunity I get to expand my understanding of other cultures, languages, and teaching, I take advantage of it, especially if it involves real-world learning experience,” she notes.

During the summer of 2013 and summer of 2014, Ms. Dixon and 14 American teachers with SABEH, the Sino-American Bridge for Education and Health, conducted professional development courses for Chinese teachers of English at the Fujian Institute of Education in Fuzhou, China.

SABEH, the Sino-American Bridge for Education and Health, a non-profit organization based in the Boston area, develops and provides exchange programs for experienced American and Chinese teachers and healthcare workers, giving them opportunities through travel to share best practices in teaching and community health.

This summer, SABEH will be conducting three programs in three different cities, Chengdu, Fuzhou, and Hangzhou. Ms. Dixon will be the Lead Teacher in Hangzhou, with new responsibilities, listed in this document. In Hangzhou American teachers will teach Pedagogy and professional courses to Chinese teachers of English for one week, teach children for two weeks, then enjoy a week of travel.

After the program in China concludes, Ms. Dixon and her family will take time to relax in Sydney, Australia, before returning to Florida in August for the new school year.
