Members of the Gulf Philosophy Club conducted a Skype interview with Susan Herman, President of the American Civil Liberties Union, after school today (9/16).
Herman was elected President of the ACLU in 2008 after having served on the ACLU National Board of Directors for 20 years.
Today’s interview was wide-ranging. Herman told the students she believed Edward Snowden was a patriot, and she held up to the camera a copy of the ACLU’s magazine, which featured an article about Snowden. Asked about the single-gender classes at Westside Elementary School in Hernando County, she compared the classes to classes where only whites or blacks were allowed to attend. The ACLU has filed a federal complaint against the Hernando County school district over the classes.
Last year the group did a Skype interview with Noam Chomsky.
