Gulf High School’s Environmental Club recently participated in a “Weed-Off” at the Upper Cotee Preserve in Spring Hill. Our group competed against River Ridge High School’s SPLASH club in pulling weeds and preventing their spreading. We pulled invasive weeds from the area—skunk vine and air potatoes—which if overgrown can suffocate and kill the trees in the preserve. The plant and trophy we received from participating is held by Dr. Knobl, and we will plant the drought-resistant plant with Dr. Knobl on Tuesday.
