Coach Dean Lofton sent an email to our faculty on Oct. 15 reporting on the cross country meet held on Oct. 14 and thanking people who helped make it a success. Here is his email.

Teachers and Staff,

Our Gulf High Cross Country 3 x 1 Mile Relay went fantastic yesterday. I am proud to say that it has become an event that teams from across the county look forward to and love to attend. The girls team of Kari Grippo, Katie Buckman, and Eliza Gazda finished first and our girls team of Martha Hernandez, Jaylin Banks, and Abigail Raymond pulled off an upset with an amazing finish and came in 3rd. Our boys team of James Raymond, Wesley Best, and Sebastian Gazda finished 2nd. Our Coed team of James Raymond, Wesley Best and Kari Grippo crushed the competition and finished 1st overall.

I would like to thank the following people for helping to make this a success:

1. Mrs. Davis – She came out there and supported the kids and posted lots of great pictures since I was too busy to do so. Check them out on the the GHS Facebook page. I could not convince her to be on the coaches doughnut relay.

2. Mr. Rutherford – He is one fantastic DJ and provided the music for the event

3. Randy and Staff – For setting up the stadium and making it look nice for the event.

4. Mr. Scott Grippo – For video taping the event … It should be up on the GHS site soon. Check It out you will see how the kids dress up and the doughnut race is awesome.

5. The Coaches Relay team of Alan Parmenter (Anclote), Zach Stoutimore (Anclote), Val Lofton (Gulf), Jeff Leavey (Mitchell) and Josh McCart (River Ridge) – They won the 4 x 400m Doughnut Relay – For showing that age/determination can still beat youth/endurance.
