Gulf High School opened as the third high school in Pasco County (after Pasco and Zephyrhills) with a ceremony on Sept. 18, 1922. The ceremony was held at a local church, as the auditorium in the new school building was not yet finished. Several activities have been planned for Tuesday. The original location of Gulf High School was the building which now houses Schwettman Education Center. In 1961, the school moved to a new building on Louisiana Avenue which now houses Gulf Middle School. In 1977, the school moved to its current site, a building had been constructed in 1971 to house Gulf Junior High School. (The schools switched buildings.) A photo taken on Sept. 18, 1922, at Community Congregational Church, where the opening exercises were held, is here. A 1950s view of Gulf High School and the article in the New Port Richey Press of Sept. 21, 1922, reporting on the opening of the school, are below.
