Florie Buono, the Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction at Gulf High School, will be leaving Gulf effective March 16. She has been an assistant principal at Gulf since January 2005.

Dr. Knobl will honor her at a faculty meeting on March 14.

In an email to the faculty yesterday, she wrote, “Although my years here have been exciting, fun, challenging and rewarding, I am ready for a change. … I have so many great memories to take with me! I want you all to know that without your encouragement, guidance, assistance, and constructive criticism, I would not have grown into the person I am today. I thank you for helping me to grow as both an individual and an administrator.”

Mrs. Buono will be leaving education to work in the private sector.

Before coming to Gulf, Mrs. Buono taught math at J. W. Mitchell High School. She began teaching there when the school opened in 2000. Before teaching at Mitchell, she was on the faculty of Bishop Larkin School in Port Richey for two years and she taught math for four years at Ridgewood High School.

Florence Cupertino was born in New York City. She moved to Florida in 1978, and attended Hudson High School in the 11th and 12th grades. Her husband, Frank Buono, teaches science at Hudson High School. They have two sons.
