Jody McCreary, who has been teaching at Gulf for 30 years, will transfer to J. W. Mitchell High School in August.

Mr. McCreary joined the Gulf faculty at the start of the 1971-72 school year. He was hired by Principal W. R. Durden in August 1971. Mr. McCreary recalled that he and Robert Brown both started in the 1971-72 school year but that he was hired first, making Mr. McCreary the senior member of the Gulf faculty.

Mr. McCreary said that because marketing co-op is no longer being offered in the county, his teaching position had been eliminated. He will become the coordinator of the new DCT program at Mitchell High School, which opened one year ago.

Mr. McCreary was born in Tarpon Springs and grew up in Elfers. He attended Elfers Grammar School when Mittye P. Locke was the Principal. He would have attended Gulf High School but, because his father was the city manager of Tarpon Springs and was required to live in that city, he attended Tarpon Springs High School. He holds a BSBA degree with a marketing major at the University of Florida and a master’s degree from USF.

He said that he has thoroughly enjoyed his association with Gulf students over the years and hopes that same feeling will extend to Mitchell.
