Jacquelynn Shelton, a senior IB student at Gulf, is one of six students in Florida who have been named recipients of the Take Stock in Children’s Leaders 4 Life Fellowship. She is the first Pasco County student ever to win this prestigious award, which will pay for her college education. Pasco County Superintendent of Schools Kurt Browning, pictured here with Jackie, made the announcement this morning (1/8) in Sra. Rodriguez’s first period class.

Earlier, Jackie had been named one of twelve finalists in Florida for the fellowship, and at that time won a new Mac laptop computer valued at $1500 and other prizes. That announcement was made in Mr. Griffith’s class on Nov. 21.

Created in partnership with the Asofsky Family Foundation, the Leaders 4 Life Fellowship enables the recipients to excel in a university environment by giving them the resources that empower them to develop their full potential as leaders for life. The fellowship provides each student with up to $10,000 annually for leadership training and development, housing, food, textbooks, supplies, transportation and other college-related expenses.

In the pictures below, besides Mr. Browning and Jackie, are Gulf Principal Mrs. Davis; Assistant Principal for IB Mr. Page; Rosanne Heyser, the Take Stock In Children Program Manager for the Pasco Education Foundation; Mr. Griffith, her recent mentor; Tiffany Burkette and April Kelley, her earlier mentor, now retired; Jackie’s father; and some of Jackie’s teachers.
