Connie Balaban has been named Gulf High School’s SRP of the Year. Mrs. Balaban has been our registrar since April 2007. She joined our staff in August 2006, first working at the front desk and in the ESE department. Before coming to Gulf, she was the principal’s secretary at Mittye P. Locke Elementary School. She earlier worked as the office manager for a pharmaceutical company. Mrs. Balaban was born in Youngstown, Ohio, and attended Poland Seminary High School in Poland, Ohio, and Youngstown State University. She is married to Michael Balaban, a maintenance mechanic at West Pharmaceutical Services in Clearwater. They have three children: Laura (GHS ’03), a stay-at-home mom; Nicole (GHS ’06), who wants to become a teacher and currently attends PHCC; and Adam, a seventh grader at Paul R. Smith Middle School. Mrs. Balaban says she is an avid reader and enjoys being a grandmother. She describes the duties of the registrar as: registering and withdrawing children, checking in and out records, approving lunch forms, filing, and providing transcripts. SRP’s (School-Related Personnel) are school employees who are not administrators or teachers.
