Sommer M. Perry, the new speech-language pathologist at Gulf High School, is our newest staff member. Ms. Perry is at Gulf High School on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and at Gulf Middle School on the other days of the week. Before coming to Gulf, she was a speech pathologist in Hillsborough County. She has a bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Florida. She graduated from St. Petersburg High School, where she was an IB student, in 2004. She was born in Nashville, Tenn., but was raised in St. Petersburg.

She provides speech and language services to students at both schools, working with some students on articulation and others on reading comprehension and related language skills. At Gulf High she is assigned 15 students who see her for therapy, and she tracks the progress of another 50 students. At Gulf Middle she sees 47 students for therapy on a weekly basis, and tracks about 20 others. She also produces and revises Individualized Educational Plans (IEP’s) for all students on her caseload. Ms. Perry prides herself in being an advocate for all of her students!

Ms. Perry resides in Tampa with her “kids” – a doberman Mya and a cat Fiji. Her hobbies include scrapbooking, physical activities, and sports-watching. She is a die-hard Gator fan! Chomp chomp!!
