From head softball coach Rick Hohenthaner: The 2013 softball season for the GHS Buccaneers was one for the record books. These young ladies reached heights no other team had achieved. First-ever district title in the fast pitch era, hosting and winning a state regional game. Throughout the year they faced adversity, both on and off the field, head on and without wavering. As their coach I couldn’t be prouder of their efforts even in defeat. Our success this season could not have happened without the support of the administration, Ms Kim Davis, Dr. Judy Gallagher, Ms. Maribeth Caldwell, Steven Page and Doug Elias. AD Travis DeWalt, who works so hard behind the scenes to make being a part of the athletic culture at GHS so enjoyable.
And finally to the alumni, friends, and families who made their presence known during our run in the state tournament, we can’t thank you enough. The turn out was fantastic. The noise was incredible. To see the crowd from home plate, along the third base line and around the fence in left was exhilarating and fired up the girls to play their best. We couldn’t have asked for more. We will be back next season ready to defend our district title and raise the victory flag. Go Bucs!
