The Buccaneers wrapped up the Hernando Softball Slam on Saturday with semifinal action in the morning. Clearwater Countryside stood in the way of the finals and presented the challenge. Falling behind 3-0 after one inning, the Bucs could not mount a comeback and ultimately fell 4-1. The host team lost to River Ridge 1-0 setting up the nightcap versus Hernando.
Brittney Pressler took to the mound and battled Courtney Riddle, the ace of the Leopards staff. Falling behind 1-0 in the first, the Bucs battled back to tie the score in the 3rd and took the lead in the 4th on a monster home run off the bat of Nikki Sedivy, a towering bomb to straightaway center field. The lead held until the 5th inning when the Leopards answered with 8 runs to quiet the Buccaneer faithful.
The ladies went 2-2 in the highly competitive second year tournament. Each team they faced came in with winning records and ranked top in their respective districts. Due to illness and injury the Bucs had to play through tough situations this weekend but I couldn’t be prouder than I am today with the effort and teamwork they displayed. True Buccaneer pride showed up this weekend making everyone aware at the tournament that our school WILL represent.
A special thank you to the parents and family who sacrificed their time these last two days. Without your support, these girls may never have reached their goals. So much more is yet to come. The Bucs are back at Rudy Snyder field this Tuesday at 6pm versus Anclote. Go Bucs
