Physical education teacher and JV volleyball coach Barbara Munday is retiring at the end of the school year.

Mrs. Munday has been at Gulf High School for 25 years, starting at the beginning of the 1984-85 school year. She is known to earlier students as Barbara Barlow. She earlier taught for 13 years at Gulf Junior High School (now Gulf Middle School).

Asked how coaching volleyball has changed over the years, she said that the skills and strategies in volleyball are much more complex today than when she first started, when the goal was just to get the ball over the net.

She started her teaching career in 1970 at Fredonia High School in Fredonia, N. Y., where she taught physical education. Barbara Ludwick was born in Warren, Pa. She graduated from Northern Area High School in Warren County and from Slippery Rock State College in Slippery Rock, Pa.

Little known fact: Coach Munday was an owner of a bathing suit company, B. Risque Swimwear, for which she designed the swimsuits.

Mrs. Munday says her passions are coaching volleyball and Corvettes. She has owned Corvettes since 1970. She says that in retirement she plans to “play poker and shop a lot.”
