Gulf wrestlers Anthony Ayers and Ladarious Jackson won first place in their weight classes in the state wrestling tournament tonight. Both wrestlers also won first place last year as juniors.
Dr. Knobl sent the following email to the faculty:
Congratulations to Coach DeWalt and his student-athletes on their 5th place team finish at the state tournament. With more than 70 schools representing 1A, the Gulf wrestlers made us proud buccaneers! I had the opportunity to watch them compete the last two days and I was proud as can be! The three seniors that medaled have done so all three years that I have been the Principal at GHS. What an awesome accomplishment that they will never forget. Anthony Ayers and Ladarious Jackson repeated as state champions and medaled as 10th graders. RJ O’Connor medaled in 3rd place, his third year medaling at this event. Great job to the coaching staff and to these kids. They work year-round for this moment so I hope they take time to celebrate and savor the feeling. History was made for GHS yet again!
