Carol Hlad, who has taught Family and Consumer Science at Gulf since 1996, will retire at the end of the school year.

Ms. Hlad began her teaching career in 1968 at Donora Junior High School in Donora, Pa. She taught Home Economics there. She subsequently switched to Ringgold High School in Monongahela, Pa. She recalls that Joe Montana was a student while she taught there.

After moving to Florida, Ms. Hlad was hired at Ridgewood High School, where she also taught Home Economics. She subsequently was the Child Care Coordinator/Trainer for Pasco County, working in the district office for several years. She then ran the Child Care Center at Land O’ Lakes High School.

In 1996 she came to Gulf, where she has taught Family and Consumer Science. She also has headed the Health Careers Academy.

Carol Huzinec was born in Erie, Pa. She graduated from McDowell High School in Erie, and has a B. S. degree in Home Economics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Her husband Greg is Director of Testing at PHCC. Her daughter Kristen is an architect.

Mrs. Hlad says that her hobbies are reading, sewing, cooking, and traveling and she hopes to do much traveling in retirement.
