Stephen E. Nesthus, the Senior Naval Science Instructor at Gulf for the last four years, has accepted a similar position at Spoto High School in Riverview.

Dr. Knobl said in his weekly podcast that CMDR Nesthus had done a terrific job and that Gulf will miss his leadership and his dedication to his cadets and to our entire school.

CMDR Nesthus joined the Gulf faculty at the start of the 2007-08 school year. During his period as the Senior Naval Science Instructor, our NJROTC unit has excelled in numerous local and state competitions.

Before coming to Gulf, Nesthus started the NJROTC program at Charles W. Flanagan High School in Pembroke Pines, Florida. He was there six years. In his last two years there, the unit was runner-up and then took first place in the national NJROTC competition.

Lieutenant Commander Nesthus retired from the Navy in January 1996, after 21½ years.
