Samantha Murchie, a science teacher who joined the Gulf faculty at the start of the 2003-04 school year, has accepted a similar position at J. W. Mitchell High School, where her two children attend school. Before coming to Gulf, she taught at Ridgewood High School. We asked Mrs. Murchie in an email for some thoughts as she leaves Gulf, and she wrote the following: “My time at GHS has come to an end, but a part of my heart will always be a Buccaneer. I am honored to have coached many talented cheerleaders, sponsored the Class of 2007 who gave the school the statue in the Commons area, and taught nine years worth of incredible students, many of whom I have become friends with after their graduation. But what I will miss the most is my amazing co-workers. I learned so much from them over the years and developed strong friendships that will continue. My move to MHS will allow me to grow professionally and create more memories with my children (Connor will be in 11th grade and Payton will be in 9th grade). Thank you to all who have mentored me along the way. I hope I will still be invited to the bi-monthly ‘Safety Meetings.'”
