The new head basketball coach at the University of Florida was introduced today (5/11). He is Michael White, the son of Dr. Kevin and Jane White, who were coaches and teachers at Gulf High School in the 1970s. Kevin White (in the dark blue shirt) is currently the Athletic Director at Duke University. Michael White’s uncle Terry White and aunt Katie White-Brochu are GHS graduates.
Gulf alum and supporter Bill Phillips attended the press conference and provided these photos and the information. Mr. Phillips played sports at GHS when the Kevin and Jane White were on the Gulf faculty. Mr. Phillips and Coach Michael White are in the third photo. Mr. Phillips graduated from GHS with Terry White in 1975 and they have been friends since then.
