The first graduation in Gulf High history took place on April 29, 1924. That was 90 years ago, so tonight’s graduation will be our 91st. GHS opened in Sept. 1922, but there was no senior class in 1922-23, and thus no graduation in 1923. There were 11 graduates in 1924. One was Mark St. Clair, who later served as Pasco County Schools Superintendent for 8 years. At least two other graduates later became teachers. Mittye Walker Pierce, Class of 1927, played a piano solo at the 1924 graduation. Mittye P. Locke Elementary School is named for her.

The bottom photo was taken after the baccalaureate sermon on Sunday, April 27, 1924, two days before graduation.
