As the season begins wind to its bittersweet end the emotions of the six seniors begin to weigh on their minds. Tonight (4/9) was the final home game for one. Brandi Vance stepped on the field 4 years ago as a wide eyed freshman who only wanted to be part of something special. In her final appearance on Rudy Snyder field it was only appropriate that the final out was a fly ball to right field where Brandi waited to make the catch and clinch the victory over Wire Grass Ranch, 9-1. Friday night’s game (versus Zephryhills) is senior night, Brandi will not be able to attend the game.

Tonight’s big hitters were Nikki Sedivy 2 for 3, double and 3 RBI’s and 2 runs scored. Haley McCarthy went 3 for 3, 1 RBI and a run scored. Rachel Gardner also doubled in the win. Madison Morlan again went the distance giving up only 3 hits, striking out 3. The Bucs’ record now stands at 16-4 with one regular season game remaining. But so much more is at stake. The Bucs open defense of the District 5A-8 title on Monday 4/14 against SunLake at 5:pm. River Ridge will be hosting this year’s tournament.

The victory keeps the Bucs in the hunt for a share of the SAC title pending the outcome of the River Ridge and Mitchell game on Thursday. A Mitchell loss will give the Bucs a share of the SAC title providing they can defeat Zephyrhills on Friday night. Friday will be a huge night for the seniors and their team. Game time for the Zephyrhills contest is 7:pm. And what now has become a tradition, the seniors will celebrate their night with a post game video shown on the field 30 minutes after the final out. We invite all to come out Friday and celebrate to most successful senior class in the fast pitch era at Gulf High. See all you Buc fans on Friday at 7:pm and stick around for the video. Go Bucs!
