In 1951 students in Mr. Marchman’s trigonometry class built an oversized slide rule as an entry in the state fair. Mr. Marchman subsequently used it for teaching purposes. Walt Casson, class of 1951, recalled recently that he used a Leroy lettering set, which he still owns, to put the numbers one slide rule. He remembers that Mr. Marchman was very impressed with the device. It was mounted on the wall in Mr. Miller’s class on Dec. 13, 2011. It was discovered earlier in storage at the old Elfers red brick schoolhouse. The pictures below show the device being mounted on the wall by Mr. Mosher and Mr. Bishop and students in the Slip Stick Club holding the slide rule. The latter picture is a page from the 1952 Gulf High School yearbook.
