Lizzette Nazario, who is a Media Specialist, has been named the Gulf High School Teacher of the Year. Her selection was announced at a faculty meeting after school today.

Mrs. Nazario joined the Gulf faculty at the start of the 2003-04 school year. She originally taught Spanish, but she transferred to the Media Center fulltime at the start of the 2008-09 school year.

She began her teaching career in Palatine, Illinois, where she taught for nine years, as a bilingual teacher in several elementary schools. She then taught one year in Venezuela, seven years at Deer Park Elementary School as a special ed teacher, and one year at Chasco Middle School, where she taught Spanish. She has B. S. Ed. and M. Ed. degrees from Loyola University Chicago. She was born in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico, and grew up in Chicago.

Her husband is Randy Nazario, who is an electronic technician for Esco Manufacturing in Tampa.

She has taken three trips to Europe and one trip to Costa Rica with Gulf students. This year she is the student council adviser and thus has been spending much of her time planning the events for homecoming week.

The teacher of the year is selected each year by a vote of the faculty.
